Hospice at Home appeal

In 2022, Macmillan Caring Locally introduced their Hospice at Home service with clinical led care, allowing patients with complex symptoms to get the expert care and support they need from a team of specialists at home, rather than being in hospital or in the Macmillan Unit Hospice.

The Hospice now needs support from its community to raise an additional £500,000 each year to deliver this service and help more local people die with dignity and the choice to be cared for at home.

Jade’s story: The difference it makes

In September 2023, James Barber tragically died at the age of 37 after a courageous battle with bladder cancer. It was the incredible staff from the Macmillan Caring Locally team who provided the ‘Hospice at Home’ service, allowing James to spend his last precious weeks with his family and as much time as possible with his beautiful daughter, Kate.

We handle the medical needs so you can simply be a family again.

Hospice at Home statistics

On average, over 200 patients per year benefit from our Hospice at Home Service.

Our Hospice at Home Service saved over 2 months of care on the Macmillan Unit.

On average, £70 will fund a specialist nurse call with a patient and their family.

On average, £180 will fund a home visit from our dedicated team of caring professionals.

On average, £1,370 will fund 24-hous of Hospice at Home care.

The Macmillan Unit serving Christchurch, Bournemouth and surrounding areas, works in partnership with Forest Holme and University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust to deliver 24 hour care at the hospice and at home.
