Since the earliest days of the practice in 1989 when IBI Group, formerly Nightingale Associates, was commissioned to prepare a Development Control Plan for St. Thomas’ Hospital in London, the practice has built an extensive portfolio of more than 1000 projects undertaken for the NHS, Local and Regional Government and charitable foundations, covering a range of new build and refurbishment projects of diverse type, size, value and complexity.
The work has covered all sectors of healthcare from acute to support services, and the commissions have included some of the largest schemes ever undertaken in the UK by the NHS.These include the recently completed Southern General Hospital in Glasgow, through to very small scale but nonetheless equally important commissions for local GP surgeries and dental practices. Regardless of size, all our schemes are approached with the same rigour and determination to deliver patient and staff focused environments.

More than 80% of our current work is health related and we have grown steadily to become one of the largest architectural practices (six largest globally) specialising in healthcare design.
