Nigel Howe
It is with great sadness we announce the death of our retired colleague and friend Nigel Howe. Nigel’s family and friends are in our thoughts at this very difficult time.
Nigel was our much-loved gardener at the Macmillan Unit at Christchurch Hospital for 15 years. During that time he and his gardening team worked ‘rain or shine’ to ensure the Macmillan Unit gardens were a feast of colour and interest all year round.
The award winning Macmillan Unit gardens are a very important part of the care of our patients, and they are cherished by patients, visitors, staff and volunteers. Nigel would often be seen tending his stunning display of roses, and when there were spare blooms, patients would sometimes find them freshly cut, on their breakfast tray in the morning.
Nigel was so much more than our gardener and our colleague, he was our friend and a part of the Mac family. He will be known to so many, and his gardens have brought joy and provided a tranquil haven to many people over the years.
We are putting together a book of remembrance to present to Nigel’s family. If you would like to pay tribute to Nigel, or have a memory you would like to share, please contact our office, and we will include them in the book.
Rest in peace Nige. We miss you and will never forget you.
